A beautiful December day in northern California, but unfortunately, most of the bass were taking the “day off”. In spite of the slow to non-existent ‘bite’, Jerry Boyd, put together a winning pattern and brought in an excellent bag for both 1^st place and options wins. This win locked-up Gilroy Bassmaster of 2011 for Jerry.

My partner, Darwin Ellison, extended the pattern of my fishing with the “big fish” winner J with a very nice 5.11 lb. “big fish”.

There were several good "bags" each day and, thankfully, not the 'heat' of last year. Algae bloom was present, but again not quite as bad as last year.

Our current year-to-date "weight" leader, Mario Jorge, maintained his #1 position with a 1st place finish for the tournament. Last year's July 2010 Clear Lake winner, Bob Nathan, finished this year in 2nd place. Tom Buckles, in 3rd place, eased by Don ("first out of the money") Welch by less than 0.5 lbs (23.35 vs. 23.23).

Another great two days "on the water", this time at the Delta.  A bit of wind on Saturday, but relatively calm on Sunday.  From the various reports, a significant number of fish were caught, but a significant number of those fish were "almost, but not quite" (12", 12.5", 12.75") :-(

Our own "Delta rat", Chuck Peak, brought in the "big bag" of 6.65 lbs on Day 1 to take that day's options.  Adam Hawley followed his boater's suggestion for a lure and landed the "Big Fish" of 3.92 lbs for Day 1.

Fishing Report by Walter Baker
It was a gorgeous two days (actually, three with pre-fishing) on the water at Lake Sonoma.  Saturday was somewhat windy, but overall three great "why we live in California days".

Day 1 resulted in three  great five-fish limits from the teams of Jerry/Ray (17.20), Mark/Bob (16.31), and Mario/Adam (14.07).  The teams of Walter/Chuck (9.50) and Darwin/Jim (8.50) rounded out the field, each with five-fish limits.  Wonder if the three "big bags" had anything to do with those three boats turning right from the launch and the two boats with the small "bags" turning left from the launch (inquiring minds want to know).

Based on a recommendation from my partner for Day 2, we went to the right after launch, as a change in strategy.  Chuck assured me that some of the locations in that direction were "money".  Boy, was he correct!  At 6am, we had a limit in the boat and at 6:10am we began culling fish.  After consistently getting "bit" on my 'go to' Swamp Crawler color of Green Pumpkin/Red, I decided to try a color I had not used before, Watermelon/Blue Flash.  Immediately hooked up with the " big fish " for Day 2 :-)

Fishing Report by Jim Woolridge
Here are the results for the Clearlake two Day tournament this past weekend.

The weather ran the gamut, we had low temperatures of 30 degrees early Friday morning to 83 degrees Sunday afternoon.  It was very windy Wednesday through Friday and moderate on Saturday during the tournament.  It was 43 degrees at blast off on Saturday with  little wind.  Sunday was beautiful with plenty of sun and little wind, water temperatures ranged from 59 degrees on Saturday to 65 degrees on Sunday afternoon for us.

First we want to thank Randy Pringle and the staff of of the Angler's Choice Western Rookie League for professionally weighing our catch on Sunday.  Yes, there was a 80 boat WRL event at Redbud on Sunday.  So the challenge was to get launched and recovered before the bigger tournament.  We did fine and everyone got launched and recovered without incident.

Also, a thanks to Chuck Peak for supplying hot dogs at the awards.

The bite was a little tough at Clearlake for this time of year.  I am sure the weather and fishing pressure had it's effect.  But everyone caught fish and I believe had fun.  There were a couple of mechanical issues with boats but they were resolved.  The big bag belonged to Bob Nathan with ten fish for 37.46 pounds, he had 20.64 on day two and a real nice sack.  Bob said that all the fish were caught on the secret bait that shall not be mentioned.  He also had Big Fish for day 2 with a 5.42 pounder.  I was second with ten fish for 35.05, Mario Jorge was third with 34.06.  We caught all our fish on plastics, the secret bait and Flick Shake.  Mark Pineda was fourth with 30.93 pounds and Jerry Boyd was fifth with 29.74 pounds.  Mike Bacon and I tied for Day one Big Fish with two 5.60 pounders.  Don Welch had day one big bag with 19.91 pounds.  He was fishing with his guest (a local stick )Orlinda Hamel who did very well in her first tournament.

No Shows were: Rick Anderson (truck & guest), Edward Gonzales (sick & work) and Nick Daleo-5th (school event & ride)

Weather was much nicer than last tourney, mid 50-60, clear skies, moderate wind. Lake was full, relativley clear and 50 degrees or so. Fishing was tough even with the good  conditions, only 2 limits.

On Sunday Mr. Grand slam and his side kick really struggled at Berryessa.  We had 9.55 pounds and came in 14th out of 21 boats at the U.S. Angler's Choice-Berryessa.  We just could not get them to go, same patterns as Saturday did not work.  The winners had over 20 pounds but there were also some teams with zero to a couple of fish.  But we had fun anyway.
